Blue economy in the Mediterranean

On 2nd February 2017, a conference organised by the European commission and the Union for the Mediterranean have hosted a conference on challenges and opportunities for sustainable investment and job creation in the blue economy of the western Mediterranean. Find out all the conclusions of the conference on the dedicated website.

Read also the conclusions of the debates of the Intermediterranean Commission of the CPMR on the topic, which included the Region of Ionian Islands and the Regional Government of Andalusia, both members of the European Straits Initiative.

International ocean governance

In 2015, the European Straits Initiative contributed to the consultation launched by the European commission on the international ocean governance. Read the communication of the European commission from 10th November 2016, with a set of proposals: “International ocean governance: an agenda for the future of our oceans”.

Call for projects “Connecting Europe Facility”

A call for projects of the programme “Connecting Europe Facility” is opened since 8 February 2017. This call makes €1 billion of funding available (including €40 million for Motorways of the Sea priority) for projects of common interest in the transport sector aiming at maximizing the leverage of private involvement and capital in the delivery of CEF Transport projects.
