A meeting gathered several European Straits Initiative members in Paris on 29 May, in the offices of the Permanent Representation of the European Parliament. A symbolic building, where died the famous Blériot pilot who flew for the first time over Dover Strait in 1909!
The purpose of this meeting was to prepare the renewal of the ESI Memorandum of Understanding that will take place at the end of the year. Indeed, this Memorandum of Understanding expires, 4 years after it was renewed for the first time in October 2014 in Brussels. The opportunity for ESI partners to think about the place of European straits in the world of tomorrow, considering the numerous climate or technological stakes.
Thirty-two concrete proposals emerged from this brainstorming, including contributions of partners who could not come to Paris. These 32 propositions will be evaluated by all partners to prepare the conference for the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding and the next steps of the work of the European Straits Initiative.
