ESI comments on international ocean governance

Published the 8 February 2016

Launched in June 2015, the consultation of the European commission on international Ocean Governance was closed in October. A synthesis of the results of this consultation is now available to download. Among the answers to this consultation is the answer of the European Straits Initiative, available to all on the website of the European commission.

Governance is at the centre of exchanges between the members of the European Straits Initiative. At the heart of maritime borders, straits are directly impacted by international rules linked to uses of seas and oceans. Diversity of activities in these areas involves an on-going consultation between all levels of public stakeholders but as well between public, private and civil society stakeholders. From 2012 to 2014, INTERREG IVC NOSTRA project questioned cross-border governance of maritime straits for a better conservation of their biodiversity and natural heritage.
