Dover Strait - Pas-de-Calais County Council receives a label for its expertise

Published the 26 March 2018

In December 2017, the French ministry of Europe and Foreign affairs awarded Pas-de-Calais County Council with the Pact 3 label for its expertise in “cross-border cooperation on maritime borders”.

The Pact 3 label “international territorial expertise”, awarded for 2018-2020, enables to support French local authorities in their decentralised cooperation approaches. Local authorities receive the label based on their competencies or specific know-how, on which they want to be identified.

Pas-de-Calais County Council received this label end 2017, thus valorising the experience gained through its cooperation with Kent County Council on the other side of the Strait of Dover/Pas de Calais. This label is also based on the work of the European Straits Initiative since 2010, for which Pas-de-Calais County Council is co-lead partner. The results of the INTERREG IVC project NOSTRA (Network of STRAits) in terms of cross-border governance for preservation of natural heritage of strait areas have been solid elements brought to the application. More locally, Pas-de-Calais County Council managed to demonstrate its active involvement on the seaboard, for example through the renewal of the Grand Site de France label awarded to the 2 Caps area, at the heart of the strait.
