As part of the Open Days 2013, the large annual gathering of European local authorities in Brussels and in Europe, a local event was organised on the Kvarken Strait, one of the 8 straits of the European Straits Initiative, about the ongoing Kvarken Link TEN-T project.
An Open Days event was arranged on board the MS Wasa Express Ferry on 23.11.2013 between Sweden and Finland. The aim of the Open Days event was to inform the public about the ongoing Kvarken Link TEN-T project and other related projects, and also about the opportunities for cross border travel and tourism in the Kvarken region.
The Kvarken Link Open Days event gathered around 250 persons, which exceeded the expectations. There were lots of families and senior citizens participating in the event.
When the guests arrived they were greeted by the ferry´s hostess, and former alpine skiing champion and tourism entrepreneur Stig Strand and project manager Peter Källberg informed about the INTERREG Botnia Marketing project. After this the visitors were taken on a guided tour of the ferry, refreshments were served, and the Kvarken Link TEN-T project and the INTERREG NLC project were presented by logistics expert Markus Rönnblom and port director Curt Kristoffersson.
There was only positive feedback from the visitors, and many were happy to get the chance to hear information about the projects and the ferry. Based on the feedback, many of the visitors will soon be making a trip across the Kvarken Strait.
Kvarken Strait is one of the 8 straits of the European Straits Initiative.
